GVARC Meeting Minutes, November 14, 2018

President Rudy Sweisfurth, N7COP , called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm in the SAV meeting room. Rudy welcomed 47 members.

Jack AD7NK brought free giveaway items.

Tony and Nancy Alix KA7CYY will be greeters for the Christmas Party.

N7GV (sk Lloyd Miller's call sign) will be obtained for the GVARC.

Ric Rogers KF7ZKA has volunteered to be Club Secretary for 2019.

GVARC Women's list is available from Linda Boeck who created it.

Rudy introduced the officers and asked for their reports:

Vice President Beetle Bailey, K7GSB, present.

Secretary, Jane Lang AD7NR, no news.

Treasurer Bob Call, K7RWC -Dues $10- if you haven’t paid, please send your dues to Bob Call. His information is on the contacts page.

Club Station Manager and Special Events, Tom Lang, K7VOA reported no special events at this time. 50 members have signed up for the Christmas Party. December 1st is deadline to sign up and pay the $20 per person, chicken cordon bleu or pork.

Education and VE testing –(old news)---Don Thompson KG7ITK reported the Tech class will start January 10th – 5 Thursdays for 5 weeks and 6th week for testing. They have 18 signed up. Will meet at the Sahuarita LDS Church.

Website Manager, Jon Otto, AD7GS reported over 200 hits on the website from many countries.

Drive Out Co-ordinator, Linda Boeck KF7UGO-xyl. She requests suggestions for further Drive Outs for the new year.

Technical Director Ron Phillips, AA7RP reported he has to reset the .29.27 link after thunderstorms.

Emergency Communications Coordinator Norm Kibby, W5UJ present.

Program Director Tom Smith K7AFA was ill.

Program: Beetle K7GSB presented Tom’s K7AFA presentation along with Rudy. It was a facilitated forum where club members had an opportunity to brainstorm their desires for the direction of the club in 2019 in the areas of projects and programs, education and testing, etc. There was support for many of the ideas presented and some new/continuing ideas were presented.

  1. the GVARC Club General/information Reflector (email closed group). Discussions can include tasks, schedule, and procedures for implementation .
  2. the GVARC Club "for sale/want to buy" Reflector. Discussions can include tasks, schedule, and procedures for implementation .
  3. "Mag Loop" Project. Discussions can include objectives, goals, insight, and process for implementation
  4. Near Vertical Incident Skywave Antenna “NVIS Antenna” Project (to follow the Magnetic Loop Project).
  5. more “No Bird Snowbird” type events to encourage Club Members to exercise their equipment/Ham Skills, also encourage more GVARC members to get involved with Club Net Control responsibilities.
  6. help Hams with GVARC club members with challenges of Computers, Websites, software etc.
  7. GVARC members to help other Club Hams with: Antenna Setup/teardown, general maintenance and tuning. Also assist Club Hams with equipment issues like: repairs, troubleshooting, and general operating procedures
  8. Club Communication and Member Ham Experience with a more functional and useful Website
  9. Assist local Boy Scout troops to get them their radio merit badges.
  10. Renewed efforts at fox hunts or other fun radio-related events.
  11. Consistent education program and VE testing: Suggested 2 classes per year; monthly/quarterly VE testing.
  12. 440 Ham registered in Green Valley. Efforts to get new hams into club radio room and on the air. Remote use of club station.
  13. Advertise in local paper/ and write ups of club activities, Club Directory
  14. Continue with mixture of technical and local events programs.
  15. GVARC by-laws updated and available and member portion on website are being worked on
  16. Visit other Ham radio clubs
  17. DX ing and Field Day
