GVARC Meeting Minutes, February 8, 2017

President Dale Lang, AA1SZ, called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm in the SAV meeting room. Dale welcomed the 57 members attending. He asked how many were ARRL members because we had a report on it last month and Dale wanted to ask then. Majority raised their hands.

Then Dale called upon the officers for their reports:

Vice President Rudy Sweisfurth, N7COP, reported he felt fortunate that this club continues over the years and that it runs so smoothly. All agreed.

Secretary, Jane Lang AD7NR. The Oteys will provide water for the road cleanup this Saturday. Minutes can be found on the website GVARC.US on the left hand side under Newsletters.

Treasurer Bob Call, K7RWC, reported the finances. He said we have 116 members signed up. Our club has been in the 125 to 150 member range in the 7 years he has been tracking. New hat from Custom Plus. They will sell it to us – white with logo and your callsign for $26. It is cotton and different from the dark green one.

Club Station Manager and Special Events, Tom Lang, K7VOA, reported that on January 28, Tubac Car Show in club station, had 342 contacts and 1,141 website look ups, (46 states and 22 countries).

A big deal is the repair of the discone antenna. The RG213 cable to the top of the discone was replaced and the connections renewed. Titan Missile Museum will pay half that cost and will replace the lights if they go out.

Special Event is Valentine's day. Ladies operate and men bring food - 9-1 pm on Tuesday, February 14th at Discone Antenna.

Driveout Coordinator, Gene Shouweiler– W0KAD--- Feb. 22nd ,11am, drive out to Tucson Mission It is a potluck and Club will provide water and plates and utensils. Please let Gene know if attending and you can pay him the $5 admission fee when you see him.

Education, Lloyd Miller, N7GV, reported tech class (11 in class) is winding up. VE testing will be Feb 23 at 6:00 pm at Mormon Chapel near Anamax Park. Testing for techs, general and/or extra.

Website Manager, Jon Otto, AD7GS, reported GVARC.US had 433 visitors in January. 134 contacts were made on January 8. Some of the countries were: Sweden, Spain, UK, South Korea, Serbia, Australia, Estonia, Greek, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, France, Italy.

Technical Director Ron Phillips, AA7RP, reported he had nothing except what Tom said.

Emergency Communications Coordinator Dee Gross, AD7NM, reported that a policy change is-- now if there is an active shooter, then get someone to stop him instead of what it used to be – run and hide. Just be alert when you are out and about.

Program Director Cliff Philip, N2CDP, presented a program on APRS – Automatic Position Reporting System. It was entertaining and will be on the website GVARC.US.
